The 2,450 acre G.W. Hill Demonstration Forest, located in northern Durham County, NC, is a teaching forest held by North Carolina State University (NCSU) for the primary purpose of educating students of forestry within the College of Natural Resources. The forest's operations are funded by logging revenues and recreational users' fees.
The Friends of Hill Forest (FOHF), a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, represents and advocates for the interests of recreational users (equestrians, kayakers and canoers, mountain bikers, hikers, birders, dog walkers, hunters, fishermen) and the surrounding community. We work in close cooperation with NCSU to promote the dual goals of advancing the forest's educational mission while preserving and enhancing its precious recreational value. Our efforts are funded through membership dues, fund-raising activities, and your generous donations.
We are grateful for the past and current support of organizations including:
Anyone wishing to participate in our trail work days must have attended the one-time, hour-long safety course offered by the forest management.
